Ted Becks is happy when golfers have a bad game. Every year, golfers in the USA lose more than 2.52.5 billion golf balls. Many of these balls fall into ponds and lakes on golf courses. This is good news for Ted 1. [пропуск]
On weekdays, Ted arrives at the golf course at about 10 a.m. Many golfers play early in the morning before they go to work, so he waits for them to leave. First, he puts on his diving suit and oxygen tank. Then he jumps into a pond and dives to the bottom. Ted moves around slowly on his hands and knees 2. [пропуск].
The job is not easy. The water is very dirty, 3. [пропуск], and he usually cannot see anything.
He finds the balls by carefully touching the ground with his hands. There can also be dangerous animals in some golf-course ponds in the USA. For example, there may be poisonous snakes and crocodiles. Ted must stay calm and be very brave to do this job. However, he knows how to work safely and does not let fear stop him.
Ted usually works for five hours a day. During this time, he can collect about 2,5002,500 balls. The company pays him ten cents for each ball, 4. [пропуск]. Golf balls are not the only things Ted finds. Sometimes he discovers computers, washing machines, and even cars in the ponds!
Diving in a dirty golf-course pond is very different 5. [пропуск]. However, it is still a way for divers to earn money. Besides, the work is interesting and can bring some surprising facts.
So, the next time your golf ball falls into a pond, do not be too angry. A diver like Ted may find it later.
